Bee Repellent - Don't Go Outdoors Without It

By: Keil Newman

There is plenty to love about summer time. The warm breeze on the back of your neck, the radiant sun pouring down over your lawn and home, laughter from children heard all over the neighborhood, and cook-outs with the family. The list probably goes on for miles. Yes indeed, folks look forward to the summer season. They push those cold winter months out of their minds and focus on the long summer days ahead. However, that doesn't mean that every single aspect of summer is ideal. With every great thing come a few minor negatives. Where summer is concerned, one of those negatives is the insects. Naturally you're going to encounter a few mosquitoes, ticks, gnats, and bees during the warm season. It goes with the territory. But, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy your summer days. All you need is a bottle of bee repellent, and some DEET to spray on your skin for protection.

Peppermint oil is a classic bee repellent. You can pick this stuff up from almost anywhere. Personally I can't see the hang-up folks have with bumble bees. I know they're rather large and fairly hairy, but they won't bother you. They're off doing their own thing. And it has nothing to do with people. Wasps and hornets on the other hand are a different story. Be afraid; be very afraid! These nasty little suckers are why bee repellent was invented. If you happen to get in their way, they definitely will attack with a vengeance. And what many people don't realize is that they're meat eaters. It's actually pretty disgusting if you think about it. Anyway, while a honey bee will end his life by stinging something/someone, since his stinger will pull out, wasps are completely different. They can sting you over and over again. So if you have a few nests around your home, forget the bee repellent, and pick up a can of Raid wasp spray. Hose down their nests in particular. This way when they return to it, they will be poisoned and killed.

Deet is generally a great ingredient to have in any bug spray. It throws off insect sensors so that they don't detect you. And finally, you can purchase magnets, bug zappers, candles and other devices now days that warn off bees and insects. Load up before this summer hits.
