When it comes to interior design, I am caught between two worlds. I love the traditional architecture and décor of older homes but I really want all of the conveniences of today’s modern amenities, too. This is especially true of my fireplace. There is a viable solution to the dilemma. The direct vent gas fireplace offers the best of both worlds.
There are so many problems associated with wood burning units that I can’t even begin to describe how apprehensive I was about actually using our fireplace at home. I did love the idea of having a nice, warm fire but I didn’t like everything that goes along with it. However, our direct vent gas fireplace is perfect. I can enjoy my fire without worrying about all of the messy details.
Some might be thinking that I might as well just get a regular gas fireplace unit but I really wanted something that had a traditional look. The sleek, modern edges of the newer units were just too contemporary for my older home. It just wouldn’t look right at all.
The direct vent gas fireplace looks exactly like an older fireplace. It suits the old-fashioned style of our home perfectly. You would have no idea that this unit is a new feature with cutting edge technology. It simply looks like a romantically warm and welcoming architectural feature that fits naturally into an older home.
What’s ironic is that the original fireplace was completely covered in the house. The new direct vent gas fireplace is a new addition that required relatively little work to install. The product burns very efficiently and the unit is vented right through the wall. I never have to worry about the chimney because I don’t have one.
I also don’t have to worry about chopping wood or paying to have wood delivered to our home. There is virtually no mess and I never have to scoop ashes out of the direct vent gas fireplace. This is a real benefit because I have enough cleaning to do during the day.
Kids and wood burners don’t always get along. I love that I don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to get the fire started and I don’t have to worry about my little one getting in harm’s way in the process. The direct vent gas fireplace lights with a remote starter that I really enjoy.
Being caught between wanted the interior design of an older home and the need for modern conveniences can be difficult. However, the direct vent gas fireplace is a great start for merging the two worlds.
