You probably live in a good, fine house that you bought yourself after much thought. You have probably filled it with a number of fine things that you've purchased over a period of time. You have even stocked it with pieces of art and fine memorabilia that you picked up on travels abroad. But, have you ever given a thought as to how you can protect your house and the belongings it contains? I mean, you sure do have insurance against all sorts of eventualities, but is your house protected by burglar alarms?
It is quite surprising to note but a vast majority of people who spend tons of money on acquiring goods and gadgets rarely if ever think of buying a few dollars worth of burglar alarms to protect their homes and possessions. I'm sure we are all intelligent people. And given that we live in a civil society, the police and the law making authorities are supposed to ensure the safety of our self and possessions. But why it it so difficult to understand that we too could take action to ensure the safety of these items. I mean, burglar alarms don't really cost that much. They are simple gadgets that are easy to install and capable of providing safety. Then why is it that people overlook them all the time.
The reason I am ranting and raving about this is because of a friend of mine. This man lives in a fine house in a premium neighborhood. His house is filled with rare and expensive handicrafts that he's spent over two decades collecting from all over the world. But despite my insistence, he refused to have burglar alarms installed. The result, last week his house (without burglar alarms!) was broken into and his rare stash stolen. We are all sure that the crooks will eventually be brought to book as his collection is rare and not easily saleable. But the needless agony and the pain it brings is something that he could have very well avoided.
Well, the lesson the rest of us have learnt from this episode is that first and foremost, we need to get some good quality burglar alarms fitted in our homes. They don't have to be state of the art burglar alarms. Simple, yet effective burglar alarms would do just as well. And next, we need to ensure that the burglar alarms are kept activated all the time. After all, theft prevention demands preparedness!
