It always amazes me how many people are allergic to things. I can't imagine having this affliction since I've never in my life had an allergic reaction to anything. Not that I'm not grateful. I certainly am, but can't help but wonder what an annoyance it must be. Especially for those who're allergic to certain insects such as bees. Wow, would this ever change the way you looked at the simple honey bee! Suddenly he would become your sworn enemy. One sting from that tiny insect could end your existence. I suppose you'd have to carry an emergency kit in your vehicle, just in case. But, it doesn't stop with small creatures. Oodles of people are allergic to specific foods. Peanuts being a major one. Do you know where you stand? If not, it's wise to find out what you're allergic to.
The human body reacts in strange ways. A simple bee sting can send someone into anaphylactic shock. This is basically when the body over-reacts and goes haywire. Immediate response to the sting is imperative. Blood pressure will increase and airways can be blocked due to swelling. In other words, it's time for an ambulance or emergency room. Let the professionals take over if something like this should occur. Now, there are ways to determine some allergic reactions. I took my daughter to a pediatritian in order to find out what she's allergic to. The physician took a small pin and slightly scraped a small spot on her back. Just enough to barely irritate the skin. Then he applied a variety of substances on the irritated spot to see if her skin would react. Substances like pollen, weeds, dogs, cats, ect. Oh, did I mention the substances were all in a liquid form. I suppose I should clear that up. In the end, we discovered that she is allergic to nothing, which is a good deal.
So the next time you're traveling by air, and wonder where in the heck that flight attendant is hiding the peanuts, remember they're a problem for many individuals. Peanuts are pretty much done for on commercial airliners. Kids especially have an allergic reaction to them. Therefore we'll all have to settle for pretzels from here on out.
