Airline Accident Issues And Concerns Addressed

By: Pam Suegood

The feeling of dread is common amongst humans. We often feel this way prior to giving speeches before large crowds or taking a flight across the country. This is completely normal. Furthermore, it's practically impossible to avoid. We all fear things, and those who claim they don't are lying. There's a little alarm in the back of our heads that tells us something detrimental could occur. Not that it will, but it could. However, let's examine these common stress building events. What can really happen when you speak in front of a large group? Maybe you trip over your words and get embarrassed, but that's about it. I doubt it's anything that will ruin your life or even be remembered the following day. And then there's flying. Most of us fear to some degree that the commercial airliner will crash. Does this happen often? Absolutely not! An airline accident is very rare in the real world. Think about that the next time you get on a plane.

What are your chances of actually crashing when you climb into an airplane? Let's examine a statistic. Delta Airlines had 17.51 million flights between the years of 1986 and 2006. Out of all these flights, there have been a total of 3 crashes. WOW, digest that information for a moment. Out of millions and millions of flights, there have only been three fatal accidents. That's amazing! This just goes to show that an airline accident is extremely rare. Now compare that to the thousands and thousands of automobile accidents that occur every year. You're much more likely to be involved in one of those than you are an airline accident. Maybe people should be taking more flights. It's definitely a safer way to travel. Statistics show that you're likely to be in a traffic accident once every seven years.

Remember this article the next time you have to fly. That horrible airline accident you keep fretting over is not likely ever going to occur. You've likely been psyched out by redundant films portraying airplane crashes or the surreal events that took place on 911. Rest assured that air travel is safer than it has ever been before.
